Paula Hawkins was born and grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe. She moved to London in 1989 with 17 years old and she studied philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford University. She worked as a journalist for The Times, in its economic section and later for several publications as an autonomous, also she wrote a book of financial advice for women, The Money Goddess
In 2009 she began to write romantic novels under the name Amy Silver, writing four novel including Confessions of a Reluctant Recessionista, without reaching fame, so she changed the genre of her novels.
In 2015 published The Girl on the Train, which was a great commercial success, it is a drama of mystery that addresses issues such as violence against women or the abuse of alcohol. It took her six months, working intensively in writing it.

In 2016, was the film adaptation of the best seller The Girl on the Train.
She has been chosen by the BBC as one of the most influential women of 2016, as part of the BBC 100 women 2016.
