Author,
literary critic and Spanish essayist, Care Santos was born on 8th April 1970,
in Mataró, Barcelona. Since childhood she has loved writing, she began creating her first works at age 8
and winning her first literary contest at age 14. She studied Law and Hispanic
Philology at the University of Barcelona, working after her degree as a
journalist in newspapers such as ABC or El Mundo, an activity that has combined
with her work as a writer.
Her first
book, an anthology of stories, came to light in 1995 and since then he has
excelled especially in the domain of the adult novel and children's narrative,
without neglecting stories and poetry.
As a
novelist, she has published such well-known works such as Trigal con cuervos (1999) – Ateneo Joven Youth Prize in Seville-, La muerte de Venus (2007) or El aire que respiras (2013), as well as anthologies such as Intemperie (2003) y Matar al Padre (2004) – Prize Alfonso Cossío Short Story-. Deseo de Chocolate (2014) received the Ramon Llull Prize for Novel and his book Habitaciones Cerradas was
adapted to television in 2015 with a huge audience success.
In the area
of children's and youth narratives, Santos has shown herself to be a prolific
author, with series such as Arcanus (2007), winning awards such as the Wide
Angle for Los ojos del Lobo (2004) y Hot Dogs (2000), Alandar by El Anillo de Irina (2005) or Edebé by Laluna.com (2003). Also noteworthy was Bel. Amor más allá de la Muerte (2009) and Mentira (2015).
In
addition, it is remarkable its work like a literary critic and founder of the
literary web Tormenta en un Vaso. She is currently an honorary member of Nocte,
the Spanish Association of Writers of Terror.
In the year
2017, he won the Nadal Prize awarded by the publishing company Destino del
Grupo Planeta for his work Media life.
